Women's to Men's Jacket & Top Size Chart
Women's and men's jackets are usually sized in different ways. Women's clothing commonly uses dress sizes, while men's jackets are often based on chest measurement in inches in the UK or a corresponding metric size in the EU.
This guide gives an approximate cross-reference for women's jacket sizes and men's jacket sizes across UK, EU and alpha formats. It is useful when choosing a men's jacket or top, but the garment's own size chart and your actual body measurements should always take priority.

Quick jacket size conversion rules
- Women's UK to women's EU: add 28 to the UK dress size. For example, UK 12 is approximately EU 40.
- Men's UK to men's EU: add 10 to the UK chest size. For example, men's UK 40 is approximately EU 50.
- Women's to men's alpha sizes: a women's size may often correspond to a men's alpha size one or two steps smaller than the usual women's label, but this is only a starting point.
How to choose a men's jacket from a women's size
- Measure around the fullest part of the bust or chest while wearing the type of clothing you expect to wear underneath.
- Compare that measurement with the men's chest measurement in the product's own size chart.
- Check shoulder width and sleeve length, especially for workwear that needs to allow movement.
- Allow enough room for base layers or jumpers if the jacket will be worn over other clothing.
- Check whether the garment is a regular, slim, relaxed or oversized fit.
Why the conversion is only approximate
There is no universal women's-to-men's jacket conversion. Brands use different blocks and grading, and workwear may be deliberately cut with extra room for movement or layering. A women's Large may often sit around a men's Small or Medium, but the actual chest measurement is more reliable than the alpha label.
For the best fit, use the garment-specific measurements wherever they are provided. If you are between sizes, consider the fit you need, the layers you will wear underneath and whether the jacket must allow unrestricted movement at work.
